HostGIS Linux is a Linux/GNU distribution based on Slackware and specifically made for handling GIS information. HostGIS Linux is of course completely open source and may be downloaded, modified, and redistributed free of charge. HostGIS Linux includes the following features to save you hours or days of setup time, allowing you to get straight into online mapping in minutes:
- All the usual amenities of Slackware Linux: compilers, Perl, etc.
- Apache webserver, with PHP
- MapServer, and MapScript for PHP, Perl, and Python
- PDFlib, with support built in to PHP, Perl, Python, and MapServer
- PostGIS-enabled Postgres database server
- Webmin, phpMyAdmin, and phpPgAdmin for easy system administration
- Example maps and map frameworks already installed, demonstrating Mapserver Web Widgets, Map-Fu, ECW images as data sources, PostGIS, MyGIS, WMS server and client, Flash output, OpenLayers, TileCache, and more.
