GIS Server Hosting, Welcome to HostGIS

HostGIS is the established leader in providing fully managed servers for open source geospatial applications. We provide high speed GIS servers, world-class multiple Tier 1 network connections, and professional systems administration. Services include daily security monitoring and hardening, daily backups, and regular off-site backups of the backups we already include in our monthly lease options. We are also available to provide geographic information system programming and consulting on a full project or as-needed basis. We have developed GIS systems in a wide range of industries including transportation, social services, fishing and oceanographic data, harbor management, agriculture, forestry, engineering, oil and mineral exploration, real estate, water quality monitoring, and many others.
These are some demos of maps at work, illustrating a variety of technologies and techniques. Maybe they give you some ideas for your next big project?

Here we have provided some demonstration maps that contrast the mapping frameworks, give some examples of user access and data administration, and give an idea of some of the real-life applications of GIS.

  • Tourism with Google Earth
Browse commercial points of interest (POIs) in the 3D globe of Google Earth... within your browser. With presets and optional tools, this is a impactful and impressive way to make your point.
  • Google Maps and OpenStreetMap for Municipal Planning
A simpler form of map overlaying property ownership and zoning information atop a range of basemaps. Desmonstrated here are OpenLayers, WMS, OpenStreetMap, Google Maps, GeoServer, GeoWebCache, and CQL filtering.
  • Demographic trend visualization
Animated visualization of Census data over a 25 year period. Designed for the simplest use case: finding a view and printing on 8.5x11 A2 paper.
  • Emergency and disaster response
Fire emergency response times. The app allows the user to delete or create fire stations in order to affect the risk assessment. Intended audience would be city planners calculating the best fire coverage.
  • Data collaboration and sharing
A more complex application, allowing users to draw on the map to submit features of interest. Optimized for web-based use, not for printing and not necessarily a simple app.
  • Augmented Reality (AR) via Layar
Layar is the premier Augmented Reality (AR) app for Android or iPhone. See a few small items we have contributed.
  • SprayDrift.com
SprayDrift.com is a free service, providing tools to forecast conditions pertaining to agrichemical drift. The goal is to allow chemical applicators to forecast ideal time windows for minimizing drift risk, overspray, and contamination.
  • Eixos, Commercial POIs in Barcelona
A directory of commercial POIs in Barcelona, by Planol. Many advanced features are present in this app: date filtering, AJAX XML loading, WMS GetFeatureInfo for scalability, and more.
  • Mobile Eixos, Commercial POIs in Barcelona
A pocket version of Planol's Eixos app. It really speaks for itself, in its similarity to the full-browser Eixos app. Made for a Android or iPhone, but works in a PC browser.
